In this Burning Hair, a collection of poems by Kadek Sonia, burning is only a process. Even a beginning. Yet, we often perceive “burning” as finality, as consummated or annihilated. But, what lie under or beyond the ashes that Kadek Sonia’s poem endeavoring to get to. By fiery words and heroic (albeit, often tragic) narratives, “burning hair” burns away the superficiality of ideas, femininity within a certain cultural identity, to reveal (perhaps) a higher truth. This fire is still burning, though.
